This USB is a total nightmare, I plug it in my windows 8 laptop (all drivers/firmware up to date) It tells me it does not recognize the sim press OK or cancel to set APN manually - which I have had the settings written in since I installed it. So then I should be able to connect right... No no, don't be silly. I have to pop it into flight mode, then as it latches back onto the network-the one it couldn't find to begin with but was oddly displaying the name and signal strength for. I have to time it just right and connect, if I don't I need to repeat the flight mode procedure... It gets better.
I have a pre pay sim which has a daily limit of 500mb, as a family well you can imagine how far this goes so we have a few sims we interchange over the day. Two of the sims are meant for mobile phone usage, but I have always used them in my older dongles no problem, these I can get to connect using the flight mode way. When I put in the actual sim designed with high speed for hspa data connections (AND I manually change network settings for the new APN) well it just out right refuses, flight mode does nothing, I had to faff around for over an hour pressing reset, flight, manual, auto idk what I did eventually I got a connection... there is more!
Being on limited data you get a text alert when you use two thirds, and when you use it all, I guess the text messages are arriving, but I have no idea, it makes no sound, and each time you loose, or pause your connection it resets the active session, so you cant even watch and guess where you are, plus if like me you download things and leave it run not watching I like to hear the alert so I know dam better turn that off save the rest for browsing and continue later, with this I'm clue less.
They are so chunky too, considering (unless I have not found it yet) there is no place to put a mini SD card in and use it as a data storage USB too, why all the room?... Seriously, the most useless dongle ever, except my previous one which works great on win7, but is not compatible with win 8 - but that's not the dongles fault. Lol. This one was intended to be used with win8.
